Mixed Media
Layers of paint, paper, mark-making and texture. These are the pieces where I’m working the most freely, building up and scraping back and letting the painting tell me what it wants to be. I use a combination of artist-grade acrylics and house paint, hand-painted papers, tissue paper, vintage book pages, magazine scraps, markers, pencils, paint pens, crayons and sand. The materials matter because they keep me loose. When things get too precious, the work gets stiff. The best pieces come from the ones where I stopped trying to control it.
